DSP Appreciation Week

DSP Appreciation Week: A DSP, or Direct Support Professional, is a vital component in the I/DD community. They work directly with people with IDD in their homes, neighborhoods and communities to reach their full potential and live as independently as possible. This includes helping them with activities of daily living, such as eating, dressing, and bathing.

DSPs also provide transportation, access community resources, and provide advocacy and support. They also serve as lifelines for families, guardians, and other support systems to ensure that clients have what they need to be successful.

At Abound Health, our Direct Support Professionals are the heart and soul of what we do. Their compassion, empathy and dedication to their clients is integral to our mission of empowering others through service. That’s why each year we choose to celebrate them with DSP Appreciation Week!

DSP Appreciation Week is a time of celebration, recognition and reflection of the impact that these caregivers make in the lives of the Abound Health community.

This year we hosted a variety of giveaways, including Abound apparel, hours of PTO and two trips to Hawaii! Each day also consisted of sharing stories across social media from various DSPs about their background, journey with Abound and passion for their position.

From the mountains to the coast of North Carolina, staff, clients and members of the community came together to celebrate our amazing DSPs. The outpouring of support for these individuals was both overwhelming and inspiring.

To our very core, we would like to express our deepest thanks to the individuals that make Abound a great place to be. Their advocacy and commitment for what they do makes our mission possible. Thank you for all that you do.

I love working as a DSP and seeing my clients grow and reach their goals!

I absolutely LOVE what I do and know that this is just not my job, instead this is my calling. I am passionate about caring for and helping others grow and develop into their full potential.

I have always known I was called to caregiving, and in the Fall of 2020 I transitioned and joined Team Abound. Working with my client has been, by far, the most rewarding area I have had the pleasure to serve in. It gives me the opportunity to do all the things I love to do.

I have been working in this field for 25 years now working in group homes in NY then working as a group home manager in NC. Then almost 10 years ago I started AFL work and obtained my license now and I’m still working with my family (individuals) because they both have become my family and I love helped people obtain their goals in life and be their very best at whatever they want in life.

I have always been passionate about helping others so when I discovered recreational therapy, I immediately fell in love with the field. I joined Abound Health in early March this year and it has really helped me grow in my professional and personal life.
