Fighting for Better Pay: Advocacy Team Takes on Raleigh in Support of HB 914
In May of 2021, North Carolina Lawmakers introduced the Support Our Direct Care Workforce Bill, also known as HB 914. If passed, this legislation would provide a wage increase for all Direct Care Workers within the state. With more support from Medicaid and better pay to DSPs, Abound Health could provide even better care to staff and clients.
This was exactly why our Advocacy team decided to rally for this bill in the state capitol.
With a few clients and family members in tow, the Abound Health team met with legislators and let their voices be heard. Other advocacy groups also gathered, with bill sponsor Rep. Moffitt sharing his own experience as a caregiver.
Although the bill passed in the House Health Committee in June, it has yet to make it to the House of Representatives and Senate for final approval. To learn more about this initiative, visit the North Carolina General Assembly’s page here.
