I/DD Services Update: NC Budget Opens 1,000 New Waiver Slots
The NC state budget has recently allocated funds to provide services to 1,000 individuals on the Innovations Waiver waitlist. The budget also calls for an additional increase of 1,000 more spots by the close of 2025.
With the Registry of Unmet Needs continuing to grow, this expansion will be a life-changing experience for 1,000 families.
“With the additional funding provided for the Innovations Waiver, agencies like Abound will be able to support 1,000 more individuals and families in need. These slots create a path for these individuals to live a more self-directed life, creating new opportunities for gainful employment, life skills development, supported living arrangements, and overall independence. We still have a long way to go to support the 15K individuals that remain on the waitlist, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.”
Dennis Lally, Abound Health CEO
In addition to adding more waiver seats, this budget also includes an increase of funds ($4 million) to aid those in NC with traumatic brain injuries and wage increases for in-home care workers.
