Painting with Passion: Art by Blake Henkel
Blake Henkel is a 29-year-old accomplished artist from the Triad area with over 16 years of experience. His penchant for capturing his subjects in a whimsical manner has garnered praise from many art enthusiasts and members of his community. His talent has even been featured on local news outlets, including Furniture Today and FOX 8 News.
Diagnosed with Autism at age three, he has overcome many challenges on his creative journey. Due to his limitations with verbal communication, he found it difficult to express himself creatively. With the help of the Arc of High Point and the dedication of a private art teacher, Blake’s affinity for painting began to grow into a passion.
Blake’s mother Leann says, “What he can’t communicate in words, he can put on a canvas. I think he expresses himself with paint more so than with words”.
He now hosts an annual art show benefitting the Arc of High Point, as well as custom commissions when possible. Blake’s unstoppable talent and creative expression make him an ideal advocate for those with various abilities.
Blake is an outstanding example of how one’s ability is always stronger than their disability. He truly embodies our core value of “Every Voice Matters”, and we are beyond proud to have him as part of our family.
